Practitioner training strengthens associations

The first set of regional trainings of the ARIAL programme -  a pan-ACP initiative, funded by the European Union, - took place in November and December 2011. Local government practitioners from Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific local government associations took part in training programmes to learn more about European development policy

Commonwealth leaders show strong support for local government

The Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) has welcomed the outcomes of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth, Australia, 28-30 October, particularly the strong endorsement and support given by Commonwealth leaders to CLGF’s work and the role of local government in the Commonwealth.

CLGF calls on CHOGM to support democratic local government

Members of the CLGF Executive Committee are calling on Commonwealth Heads of Government to maintain their commitment to the Aberdeen Agenda: principles on good practice for local democracy and good governance. The Executive Committee, meeting for the first time in London on 19-10 October, also called on the Heads of Government to recognise CLGF’s work in promoting local democracy, good governance and local economic development.
