Heads of government top speaker line up for Commonwealth conference on local leadership 17 July 2006

Three heads of government – Rh Hon Helen Clark, Prime Minister of New Zealand; HE President Museveni, President of Uganda; and Most Hon Portia Simpson Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica – top the line up of keynote speakers at the fourth Commonwealth Local Government Conference to be hosted by the New Zealand Government in Auckand, New Zealand from 26-29 March 2007.

 

In a conference announcement published today other confirmed speakers are Commonwealth Secretary-General HE Rt Hon Don McKinnon, UN-Habitat Executive Director Anna Tibaijuka, and UN Millennium Project Director Prof Jeffrey Sachs.

 

The theme of the conference is Delivering development through local leadership, focusing on local government’s leadership role to develop thriving communities, tackle poverty, and meet the MDGs.

 

The announcement was made following a meeting of the conference steering group chaired by New Zealand Minister for Local Government Hon Mark Burton.
