Push for localising the SDGs

CLGF welcomes the recent announcement of the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the UN Open Working Group (OWG) on 19 July to help localise the post-2015 development agenda. The outcomes document highlights the role of cities, sustainable development, building accountable and inclusive institutions amongst other key areas.

Sporting events such as Commonwealth Games boost city development says CLGF

Hosting major sporting events, such as the Commonwealth Games, Olympics or World Cup, can help boost a city's economy and global image according to a report released by the Commonwealth Local Government Forum. The report, Sporting events building local communities, released at a reception hosted by the Lord Provost of Glasgow, the Rt Hon Sadie Docherty at the City Chambers on 16 July in Glasgow.

CLGF calls for new fund for localising SDGs, supports Nigeria

The CLGF Board has called for new CLGF programmes to focus on  localising the new SDGs and looks to development partners and governments to establish a new post-2015 global fund to implement the SDGs. This was one of the key outcomes at the CLGF Board meeting, hosted by Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs Hon Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, and chaired by Mayor Lawrence Yule, in Abuja on 12-13 June.
