Caribbean Urban Forum 2016

CLGF’s newly appointed Caribbean Programme Officer, Sandra Singh, participated in the Caribbean Urban Forum (CUF) 2016 in Suriname on 27-30 April, contributing to the CARILED workshop on the key role of local government and local economic development in supporting growth, and achieving and monitoring the SDGs.

The CUF was the first of a series of regional policy dialogues initiated by CARILED to support sustainable local economic development policies in the Caribbean.

CUF brought together around 200 delegates from more than 22 countries including Belize, The Bahamas, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, as well as representatives from the Caribbean Association of Local Government Authorities (CALGA) and CLGF.

As part of CLGF’s EU-funded work in the region to strengthen the role of local government as a partner in development, CLGF has launched a new regional programme in Port of Spain and is working towards recognising the role of local government in implementing the SDGs and strengthening
