Promoting democracy, fostering inclusion and improving governance
11 March 2019
Open Government Week 2019 is taking place from 11 to 17 March. This is a global initiative which aims to promote democracy, foster inclusion and improve governance through the collaboration between citizens and government. Promoted by the Open Government Partnership where open government doers, leaders, and thinkers from around the world will come together to share ideas, discuss solutions, and commit to new levels of citizen participation in government.
Overcoming marginalisation
This year, the focus of Open Government Week is on role-breakers – or those who have overcome marginalisation and disempowerment to bring about change.
We call on CLGF members across the Commonwealth to help showcase the work that is being done at the local level to bring about change, through better inclusion. CLGF’s Commonwealth Women in Local Government Network (ComWLG) was established to support CLGF member councils, associations and ministries in empowering women to become more involved in local decision-making by standing in local government elections.
Better inclusion locally
