Commonwealth Women in Local Government Network – priorities for 2024
Supporting women in local government to increase their impact within local government is a key priority for the ComWLG Network. To date CLGF has undertaken work on political leadership, election campaign development, and mentoring for work in local government, and in 2024 CLGF has added a new focal area to the work of the ComWLG looking at Gendered Cities. Focusing on the intersection of gender, urbanisation, and development CLGF recently held two dialogues bringing together technical experts, local political leaders and technical practitioners from across the Commonwealth regions. CLGFs Pacific Regional Director, Karibaiti Taoaba is responsible for CLGFs work in the region and had the opportunity recently to travel to Kiribati for the annual Mayors Forum. Kiribati has a population of 119,000 and is an atoll nation comprising 32 atolls and one coral island, the country has a total land area of 811km2 dispersed over 3,441,810 km2 of ocean. Read More
