Fathers Day was commemorated on 9 August in Samoa, and in one community was celebrated under the theme, Developing Communities will Sustain the Pacific and Save the World. The Government of Samoa, in collaboration with CLGF invited more than 300 participants from Upolu Island for the event. Many participants both included village mayors and women representatives. Push for localising the SDGs
CLGF welcomes the recent announcement of the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the UN Open Working Group (OWG) on 19 July to help localise the post-2015 development agenda. The outcomes document highlights the role of cities, sustainable development, building accountable and inclusive institutions amongst other key areas. Read More
Biometric voter lists to be used in provincial elections in the Solomon Islands
The Biometric Voter List (BVL) will be used as the voter list in the upcoming six provincial elections in Solomon Islands. The Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening confirmed Friday the biometric voter list will be used for provincial elections Central Islands, Guadalcanal, Isabel, Malaita, Rennell and Bellona, and Temotu provinces later this year. Sporting events such as Commonwealth Games boost city development says CLGF
Hosting major sporting events, such as the Commonwealth Games, Olympics or World Cup, can help boost a city's economy and global image according to a report released by the Commonwealth Local Government Forum. The report, Sporting events building local communities, released at a reception hosted by the Lord Provost of Glasgow, the Rt Hon Sadie Docherty at the City Chambers on 16 July in Glasgow. Read More
