Strengthening LED in the Pacific
CLGF Pacific hosted the 2nd Pacific Local Government Forum in Honiara on 5-7 November. The Forum provided an opportunity to address current and emerging local government issues and challenges, set an agenda for local government reform, and strengthen intergovernmental relations and collaborative governance. CLGF calls for local democracy in post-2015 development agenda
The post-2015 global development agenda must focus on inclusive development strategies and recognise local government as a key partner in development. Boost for local economic development in the Pacific
CLGF Pacific will be holding the second Pacific Local Government Forum (PLGF) in Honiara, Solomon Islands on 4 9 November 2012. The conference is the largest annual gathering of local government in the region and will bring together over 40 representatives from government ministries, local government associations and capital cities across eleven countries. Boost for decentralisation and local government in East Africa
The inaugural meeting of the East Africa Local Government Forum (EALGF) was held at the Impala Hotel, Arusha, from 24-25 September. The Forum comprises of a network of key players and stakeholders from local and central government involved in promoting decentralisation who wish to work together to ensure decentralisation is effective, to recognise the important role of local government and partners in development. CLGF calls for more local government capacity-building in the Caribbean
The CLGF Board has backed the development of enhanced local government capacity-building programmes in all regions of the Commonwealth, including the Caribbean. Board members made the commitment in their final statement the Belize statement on the promotion of local democracy, good governance and local economic development - issued at the end of the CLGF Board meeting in Belize last week.
