East African Community (EAC) have agreed to set up a Local Government Forum for Eastern Africa to discuss decentralisation within the region and the challenges they face in developing strategies for strengthening local government. Commonwealth local authorities have pledged to develop partnerships with business, the private sector and development agencies to help their communities out of the recession. The Cardiff Consensus for Local Economic Development, agreed this week, also commits local government to become more strategic when developing local infrastructure, tourism and services. Read More

A two-day CLGF regional Validation and Dissemination workshop on study on the state of Local Government in Southern Africa was officially opened by the Namibian Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development, Jerry Ekandjo.
