Caribbean Local Economic Development program launched in Belize
CLGF's recently appointed Honorary Patron and the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Hon Kamla Persad-Bissessar made the official launch of the Caribbean Local Economic Development (CARILED) Program in Belize this week. CARILED is a six-year $23.2 million project in which local governments will utilize assets and human capital to stimulate economic growth, create jobs and develop the business sector. Read More
Commonwealth and Caribbean leaders meet in Belize
CLGF Chairperson Zenaida Moya, former Mayor of Belize City, will chair the annual Board meeting of CLGF in Belize this week. Ministers, mayors, councillors, officials, and other senior local government representatives from across the Commonwealth and the Caribbean have come together for the meeting hosted by the Ministry of Local Government of Belize. Boost for LED in the Caribbean
Local municipalities and some 500 medium and small industries in the Caribbean are set to benefit from a new programme being implemented by a partnership of CLGF with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), the Caribbean Forum of Local Government Ministers (CFLGM), and the Caribbean Association of Local Government Authorities (CALGA). CLGF calls on CHOGM to support democratic local government
Members of the CLGF Executive Committee are calling on Commonwealth Heads of Government to maintain their commitment to the Aberdeen Agenda: principles on good practice for local democracy and good governance. The Executive Committee, meeting for the first time in London on 19-10 October, also called on the Heads of Government to recognise CLGFs work in promoting local democracy, good governance and local economic development.
