Commonwealth local authorities have pledged to develop partnerships with business, the private sector and development agencies to help their communities out of the recession. A two-day CLGF regional Validation and Dissemination workshop on study on the state of Local Government in Southern Africa was officially opened by the Namibian Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development, Jerry Ekandjo. Nine Commonwealth cities are today meeting in Ahmedabad, India to discuss the challenges they are facing to provide basic services at a time of increasing population, urbanisation and mass migration and to share good practice in some of the solutions to be more effective.
