Commonwealth commits to local economic development
Commonwealth local authorities have pledged to develop partnerships with business, the private sector and development agencies to help their communities out of the recession. The Cardiff Consensus for Local Economic Development, agreed this week, also commits local government to become more strategic when developing local infrastructure, tourism and services. Read More
State of local government in Southern Africa
A two-day CLGF regional Validation and Dissemination workshop on study on the state of Local Government in Southern Africa was officially opened by the Namibian Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development, Jerry Ekandjo. CLGF Pacific Local government Symposium 2010
Vanuatu hosted the third Pacific Local Government Symposium in Port Vila from 11-14 October 2010, attended by ministers, officials and senior local government representatives from Australia, the Cook Islands, Kiribati, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. Port Vila in Vanuatu is hosting the second Pacific Local Government Symposium which will exchange effective practice, experiences, research and thinking in local government in the region. Commonwealth forum to debate health of cities
Nine Commonwealth cities are today meeting in Ahmedabad, India to discuss the challenges they are facing to provide basic services at a time of increasing population, urbanisation and mass migration and to share good practice in some of the solutions to be more effective. This is the first major meeting of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum Inclusive Cities Network which is being held in Ahmedabad from 10-12 June. Read More
