Celebrating women in leadership

28 May 2025
As part of CLGF’s 30th Anniversary celebrations we are championing local leaders from all corners of the Commonwealth – the people who tirelessly serve and work with their communities and their local administration to ensure that local government delivers basic services; enables economic development; offers social support; and protects the environment – all the essential ingredients for more liveable cities, towns and villages for all.
Showcasing women leaders
This series will feature 30 women leaders in local government and it will be a great chance to hear directly from women in leadership about their route into local politics; what they find rewarding about the role; and how they have been able to make a difference in their community. We also ask them to reflect on some of the challenges that they have had to overcome, and to give us an insight into the advice that they wish someone had given their younger self before embarking on a career in local politics!
Many of the women featured in this series are active members of the Commonwealth Women in Local Government Network (ComWLGN) and we would like to anyone in leadership or working to support women in leadership from across the Commonwealth to get in touch with Janine Xavier-Cross for more information about the work of the network and how to join in our work.
We are active across social media, and we have a dedicated facebook page where you can network with others interested in women in leadership and women’s political empowerment.
The casestudies
As we celebrate 30 years of CLGF, join us in championing local leaders everywhere who are making a real difference. Look out for the 30 in 30 casestudies!
