CHOGM 2020 interim report: A CLGF view on urbanisation

Rapid urbanisation can no longer be added to the long list of pressing global issues, it must be placed firmly at the top, and CLGF's Secretary-General, Dr Greg Munro, explains why in an article in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) Interim Report.

Online programme of sustainable urbanisation events 

As part of the preparations for the 2020 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, that was due to be held in Kigali, Rwanda in June, CLGF has partnered with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Commonwealth Association of Architects and the Commonwealth Association of Planners, with support from The Prince’s Foundation, the Rwandan Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Local Government, the Commonwealth Engineers Council and others, to develop a call to action on sustainable urbanisation in the Commonwealth, incorporating some of the lessons learned from this series of events.The impact of COVID-19 is being felt in every corner of the world, with leaders across the Commonwealth’s 54 nations facing unprecedented challenges. CHOGM interim report

The postponement of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) due to the ongoing pandemic is unfortunate, but understandable.

This Interim Report, however, echoes the intention of the Meeting: 'to explore how Commonwealth nations can pool resources and innovations to transform joint challenges into exciting opportunities'.
