CLGC 2019 postponed

11 July 2019

CLGF, the Ministry of Internal and Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, and the Federation of Sri Lankan Local Government Authorities are very sorry to announce that the recent tragic events in Sri Lanka have resulted in a significant delay in the planning for the CLGF Conference scheduled to take place in Colombo 6-9 August 2019.

The impact of this delay on preparations means that there is insufficient time to deliver a successful event. After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Commonwealth Local Government Conference 2019.

The event is being rescheduled for the first half of 2020 and will still be taking place in Asia. Sri Lanka will continue to be one of our hosts for the event, along with other members from the region. As soon as we can, we will publicise the new dates and details on this site, and we will reissue formal invitations to all members and partners.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are confident that postponing until early 2020 will ensure that we have the chance to deliver a successful conference: an event that will celebrate local government in the Asia region and the wider Commonwealth, and feed a local government voice into the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, taking place in Rwanda in June 2020.
