Commonwealth Local Government Forum

CLGF at the Financing for development conference

16 July 2015

CLGF attended the third International Conference on Financing for Development on 13-16 July in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as part of the official Commonwealth delegation and the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Government for Post-2015 Development Agenda to highlight the need for financing for development and the post-2015 agenda. The delegation welcomed the explicit recognition of the role of local and sub-national governments in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the commitment of national governments to support the financing and capacities of local governments, particularly in developing countries. CLGF Secretary-General Carl Wright highlighted the growing need to localise resources in implementing the SDGs, in order to ensure that local government has the necessary financial capacity to help implement the goals.
