CLGF at the UN conference on small island developing states

01 September 2014

CLGF Pacific Regional Director Karibaiti Taoaba and Regional Governance Manager Feue Tipu participated in the third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in Apia, Samoa from 1-4 September as part of the Commonwealth delegation.  CLGF has been working with small island states throughout the Commonwealth and has a particularly strong presence in the Pacific where it is the only organisation working with many small island developing states to support decentralisation and capacity building for local government to help deliver key services and contribute to economic, social and environmental development at local level. The final outcomes of the conference are available on the SIDS website.

Local economic development, in particular, is a key focus for CLGF's work in small states such as the Caribbean and Pacific to develop policies in line with national strategies to help create jobs, boost economic growth and deliver development locally.
