CLGF Bulletin - April 2022 - out now!

24 April 2022

The CLGF Bulletin - April 2022 is out now and available to download.

This edition features a reflection on the CLGF project on Local Economic Development which took place in several regions of the Commonwealth, lasting for over three years. Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, it yielded many benefits in the different countries and demonstrated the important role that local government plays in local economic development which, in turn, impacts national trade.

There is a report on the special local government event held at the COP26 meeting in Glasgow. The focus was on climate justice and the impact on informal settlements. CLGF delivered the event in partnership with several other organisations with the keynote speech coming from the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr.

More of CLGF's advocacy work is described in a piece on a high level discussion on the eve of COP26 about the impact of rapid urbanisation and the urgent need to prioritise sustainable development. Hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales, the panel of experts drawn from across the Commonwealth was moderated by CLGF Board Member and Mayor of Bristol, UK, Marvin Rees.

This edition of the Bulletin also features an update on CLGF's two networks:

  • Commonwealth Women in Local Government
  • Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Network

Please download and share widely. The Bulletin details our past activities, but also indicates much of the work that CLGF will take forward and we hope you will find it interesting.
