CLGF launches regional programme in Caribbean

CLGF is launching a new regional programme in the Caribbean and is opening a small regional office in the Caribbean, which will be co-located with the Caribbean Association of Local Government Authorities (CALGA) in trinidad. The regional launch will take place alongside CLGF’s 2016 regional meeting in the Caribbean on 21-23 March in Port of Spain, hosted in collaboration with CALGA, the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government and the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Local Government Authorities (TTALGA).

The two-day meeting is be part of CLGF’s EU-funded work in the region to strengthen the role of local government as a partner in development. Participants will discuss common issues faced by local authorities in the region as wella s looking at the role of local government in implementing the SDGs and strengthening policy for greater and more effective decentralisation and localisation of SDGs..

The regional meeting will be followed by a CALGA members meeting on 22 March and a half day roundtable  on the Trinidad and Tobago local government reform process on 23 March, where local governments in the Caribbean will contribute and share their experiences.
