India: summit for startup investors

15 January 2020

Local economic development in Madhya Pradesh got off to a great start in 2020 with the Startup Investors Summit taking place on 8 January at the Jabalpur Smart City Incubation Centre.
The aim of the event was to give investors an all-encompassing insight into the opportunities within Jabalpur to develop the economy. Entrepreneurs were given the chance to come together and network, not only to exchange ideas and experiences, but also to meet with customers and competitors.

Deep-dive workshops on fundraising

The summit provided a platform for understanding, encouraging and repositioning investment with a number of investors taking part. The start-ups incubated at the Jabal Incubation Centre (JIC) got an opportunity to learn through deep-dive workshops on fundraising, due diligence, compliances and structure of deals. CLGF facilitated a pre-event session for the incubatees to equip them with investor pitching strategies and techniques.

CLGF’s Regional Project Office for Asia, Ms Anuya Kuwar said: “It was a really successful event which provided the Start-ups as well as investors with practical knowledge and the opportunity to ask about the issues that were unclear. It was also a great boost to LED as a whole in the region.”

Investors, customers and competitors

The Summit attracted venture capitalists, angel investors from different parts of India, including Y T Ventures Hyderabad, BeeHive Ventures Mumbai, KLIC Seed Fund Bhopal, Mr Sunil Sanghavi from Gujarat, Mr Pankaj Thakar from Pad Up Ventures, Unicorn India Ventures, to name a few. The Summit was also attended by the CEO of Jabalpur Smart City Mr Ashish Pathak, Executive Director of smart city Jabalpur and Municipal Commissioner of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation Ashish Gupta along with Project Director Incubation Masters Mr Chandrakant Tiwari and representatives from CLGF, including the Asia Regional Project Officer and Mr Shahzad Khan. The investors also participated in a panel discussion to talk about present investor scenario in India, potential opportunities for start ups etc.
Part of the ongoing support that CLGF is providing to local economic development in Jabalpur, in collaboration with the Jabalpur Incubation Unit, this forms part of the wider SMART Cities initiative in the city.
