CLGF re-elects Mayor Moya Chairperson

The Board of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) unanimously re-elected the Mayor of Belize City Council, Zenaida Moya, as Chairperson for 2011-2013.at  its meeting in Cardiff Wales on 18 March 2011.

Mayor Moya was first elected CLGF Chairperson in Freeport, Bahamas in May 2009 and has successfully lead the CLGF for the past two years, including steering the CLGF through an organisational review chairing of the recent CLGF biennial conference, Cardiff, Wales 15-18 March 2011 with the theme Energising local economies: partnerships for prosperous communities.  The Cardiff conference was attended by 500 representatives of ministries of local government, local government associations, local governments, NGOs, academics/research associations, development partners and the private sector from 51 countries.

Mayor Moya re-election as Chairperson of CLGF coincided with this year's Commonwealth Day theme of “Women as agents of change”. During the conference Mayor Moya-Flowers hosted a special breakfast meeting on Women in Local Leadership to celebrate the COmmonwealth Day theme and look at how more women can be encouraged to come forward to stand for local election and  office.

Speaking after her election Mayor Moya thanked the CLGF Board for putting their trust in her and looked forward to further strengthening of CLGF's organisation and work following the recent strategic review of the Forum.
