CLGF supports Fiji Local Government meeting

16 March 2015

A consultative forum for Special Administrators and Chief Executive Officers in Fiji was recently held in Lautoka with funding provided by CLGF Pacific. CLGF was invited as one of the key speakers at the meeting and was represented by Regional Director Karibaiti Taoaba and Country Coordinator Akuila Masi who spoke about local government in the Pacific region. CLGF was also invited to the prize giving function at the close of the meeting, where the Regional Director participated in presenting prizes to outstanding councils.

The meeting was held with the aim of discussing the efficient and cost effective management and operation of municipal councils. It also focused on issues that were matters of priority to the nation as a whole and that require a high level of cooperation between the Ministry and the municipal councils to reach effective resolutions.

As outlined in the Ministry's Annual Corporate Plan, the forum also targeted the forging of Strategic Partnerships for municipal service delivery in ensuring effective and efficient service delivery for the thirteen (13) municipalities.

The forum concluded with an open discussion on general matters of concern from the various municipal councils and stakeholders present. The Ministry acknowledged and thanked the respective Special Administrators, Chief Executive Officers, various stakeholders and the other participants in their respective roles in enabling the consultative forum a successful one.
