Empowering young people for a resilient future
22 July 2024
Building resilience is relevant to everyone, but to ensure it is an integral part of our future, it is especially important to ensure that young people understand why and how they can achieve this.
Knowledge to build systems
The many challenges that we must prepare for by building effective protection and recovery systems are both unpredictable and ongoing, and make this initiative even more important. To continue and increase our efforts, this initiative aims to equip your people with the knowledge needed.
Toolkit
Ahead of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) on 13 October, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has launched a toolkit designed to inspire teachers, schools, educators, and policymakers to empower children and youth for a more disaster-proof future.
The contents of the toolkit represent an innovative and fun way to explain the key issues around reducing disaster risk. Although aimed at school age students, the contents are applicable to all age groups and can be used to explore the issues in a concise and simple way: a great way to consider the issues in an accessible and effective way.
Find out more about IDDRR! and access the Toolkit here.
Resilience at local government level
Building resilience is the name of the game with it serving as the theme of CLGF's major conference held in Kigali, Rwanda last November. The event looked at building resilience for a number of actions, from pandemics, natural disasters to climate change and financial stability. The background paper, commissioned by CLGF: Local Government: Building resilience across the Commonwealth sets out some of the key issue. It will also be the theme of this year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which is taking place in October 2024, with the title: One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth.
