Kiribati Mayors General Meeting

01 September 2014

The Kiribati Mayors General Meeting (MGM) took place from 30 June - 2 July and was hosted by Teinainano Urban Council.

The MGM was officially opened by the President of Kiribati, H.E. Anote Tong who delivered a key note address to the Mayors and guests. In his speech he encouraged sound leadership by Mayors and innovation and creativity in their LED activities. He also stressed the need to be aware of, and proactive about Climate Change.

In order to ensure all full mayoral attendance at the meeting, a yacht and plane had to be chartered to bring in the Northern Line Mayors and those from the Southern Gilbert Islands respectively.

The meeting was a huge success and all Mayors were satisfied with their Association. They were thankful to partners, including CLGF, which provided the major bulk of sponsorship, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who also contributed around $10,000 to fund charters, and LMTA a private company among others.
