Sustainable development

You will find out how political groups and civil society experts are paving the way for sustainable local government in Pakistan with a roundtable event of experts in the field.

There is information about the awareness raising sessons on the new local government legislation through a series of workshops.

Media skills for women

With the increasing recognition of the importance of effective communications, a large number of female councillors was invited from across the Punjab to be trained in media skills: Women’s participation in local government and the utilisation of the digital world for political efficacy. Female members of the district committee have been trained in how women can play a role in local government and about the newly introduced local government law, the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2021.

Bottom up development

There is also an item on the Territorial Approach to Local Development (TALD) – a method endorsed by project donors, the European Union, which is being implemented three different districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This centres on a bottom-up approach to help councils make development decisions that are of most use to their communities.

You will also learn about the introduction of women friendly legislation at local government level by LCAP and the responsible government ministry. If you are interested in finding out more about local government in Pakistan and the recent developments and achievements, this is the read for you.
