New post-2015 pacific urban agenda

27 March 2015
The fourth Pacific Urban Forum concluded with a strong call to find sustainable solutions to the challenges of urbanisation and its impact on towns, cities and urban centres in the Pacific region.
Building on the development of the Pacific Urban Agenda, endorsed by regional leaders in 2005, the three-day meeting that took place in Nadi, Fiji on 25-27 March under the theme 'Towards a new Pacific Urban Agenda: harnessing opportunities in a post-2015 environment’ highlighted the growing need to prioritise urban challenges as a key developmental issue for the region – which was further demonstrated as the Forum took place amidst the coordinated efforts to respond to the effects of cyclone Pam which had hit and caused catastrophic damage to Vanuatu, Kiribati and Tuvalu.
The Forum was facilitated by UN-Habitat and CLGF Pacific and was attended by urban policy makers, local and national government representatives, administrative heads of Pacific cities, towns and civil society organisations in addition to development partners from the region.
