25 August 2015

CLGF Secretary-General along with Pacific Regional Director Karibaiti Taoaba visited senior government officials and members including the PM of Tonga Hon Akilisi Pohiva and Samoan PM Hon Tuilaepa Malielegaoi to discuss CLGF’s wider work across the Commonwealth and the region, in addition to briefing them about the outcomes of the Commonwealth local Government Conference in Botswana. Mr Wright also visited CLGF’s Pacific office in Suva and met with development partners including the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, UNDP and the Fiji Ministry of Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment. He also met with CLGF members and development partners in Wellington and Canberra and attended the annual conference of Local Government New Zealand. He said, “I am delighted that our programme for local governance in the Pacific, supported by New Zealand, the EU and other partners, is going from strength to strength and will be aligned closely to the implementation of the new UN post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, 2015-2030.’
