CLGF attends LGNZ conference

16 July 2018

CLGF Deputy Secretary-General Lucy Slack is getting up to speed with what members are doing in the Pacific Region with a visit to Australia, New Zealand and the CLGF Regional Office in Suva, Fiji.

First stop is the annual conference of Local Government New Zealand taking place in Christchurch from 15-17 July. The 2018 conference got off to a great start with LGNZ President Dave Cull introducing the focus on this year's conference: future proofing for a prosperous and vibrant New Zealand.

An important feature of the conference is the Excellence Awards, which showcase examples of best practice that are making a real impact on local communities across New Zealand. LGNZ's website will provide details of the winners and the projects.

The conference also provides a back drop for the launch of a new project on localism and the benefits to be gained.

Localising the SDGs workshop in Suva

Next stop for Lucy Slack is the Fiji capital Suva, where CLGF has its regional office for the Pacific. From 19-20 July, Suva will provide the setting for a regional workshop focusing on the role of local government in localising the Sustainable Devleopment Goals.

Next stop for CLGF's DSG will be Australia where she will meet with a number of partners to discuss future work. The task then will be to share information about some of the progress that local government associations, ministries and individual councils are making in this region.
