Accessing EU Technical Assistance and Information

12 December 2023

As part of its ongoing reflection on how to continue to support local government, the European Union has recently opened its TAIEX instrument to ministries of local government, cities and councils. The Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument (TAIEX) is a European Commission instrument offering peer-to-peer technical assistance and policy support from public experts in EU Member States.

Strategic support on offer

In 2022, TAIEX delivered 787 events with over 19,000 participants worldwide supported by 2860 experts. The TAIEX instrument offers strategic support on topics such as strategic planning, public procurement, state aids, wastewater management, local economic development and improving police inspection services as well as areas linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). TAIEX mobilises European Union Member States’ public sector experts to provide short-term technical support in response to requests from public institutions in a partner country. This can include:

  • Workshops on EU best practice;
  • Expert missions to work alongside partner administrations;
  • Study visits to an EU member state host institution.
