The event will focus on the work of the Commonwealth Women in Local Government Network (ComWLG), highlighting its mission to support women’s participation in local governance, and drawing on examples of good practice and a range of experiences.
This invitation is for all members of the ComWLG Network and Focal Points. Please attend and share the details further with the women and key stakeholders in your Local Government Association and register for this upcoming Webinar.
ComWLG is the overarching group, serving the whole of the Commonwealth. In addition, there are many regional and incountry chapters making great progress in inspiring and enabling women in local government. This session will provide a deep dive into the work of the Networks in South Asia, where programming over the 2020 - 2024 period has included a focus on:
- networking of women at national level across the region;
- peer-to-peer capacity building of rural women leaders to identify and address barriers at the personal, family, community, and institutional levels; and
- advocacy towards key institutions and the development of a gender charter for South Asia, ratified at the recent ComWLG regional meeting in Colombo (Sri Lanka) in June 2024.
The session will also touch on the wider work of the network, and key priorities going forward for the network, as detailed in the registration link.
This webinar aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5), aiming to empower women and ensure their equal representation in local governance. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the challenges and successes in promoting women’s leadership at the local level.
