Supporting women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka

03 February 2016
CLGF is working together with the Federation of Sri Lankan Local Government Authorities and the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils to help set up a local market for women entrepreneurs in four different councils. One such local market is planned in Lankapura pradeshiya sabha in the north central province of Sri Lanka. CLGF, along with partners is running training programmes in Lankapura for over 30 women entrepreneurs to help develop their skills in cash, stock and restaurant management in addition to providing training in running the market.
The first steering meeting of the Lankapura women committee took place on 2 February and identified the market premises, agreed on an operational plan to construct the market and developed guidelines to ensure smooth running.
This project is part of CLGF’s DFID-funded programme on strengthening local economic development in South Asia.
As part of CLGF Secretary-General Carl Wright's recent visit to South Asia, Mr Wright met with the Sri Lankan Minister for Local Government and Provincial Councils, Hon Faizer Musthapha, CLGF Board member Mayor Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana, President, Federation of Sri Lankan Local Government Authorities and Colombo Mayor A. J. M. Muzammil.
