Commonwealth Local Government Forum

Unlocking local finance

14 May 2025

CLGF is pleased to invite you to join us for the first member-LED CSCN webinar taking place on 22 May 2025. The Unlocking Local Finance webinar aims to explore how a Caribbean city broke new ground in city financing.

It follows Belize’s municipal securities journey and explores how one Caribbean city navigated the process of issuing municipal securities and what that means for the rest of the Commonwealth.

Lessons and innovation

The event will look at Belize’s macroeconomic and financing background; the enabling legislation and regulatory frameworks; lessons and innovations from Belize's journey; there will be cross-regional insight from South Africa; and contributions towards FfD4 - financing for development.

Open to everyone interested in municipal finance

This event is open to everyone interested in local government finance, but is particularly relevant to city leaders, urban finance teams, policy makers and planners.

Register now to join us and check the timing for your region.

More about the CSCN

The CSCN brings together Commonwealth mayors and managers to support cities and human settlements in responding to the challenges and opportunities of urbanisation. Specifically, the network is working towards supporting the CLGF membership and actors more broadly in advancing the New Urban Agenda and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 11 (make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable), through improved policies; global, commonwealth, regional and national advocacy; exchange of experience, city to city partnerships; shared learning; targeted programmes; and strengthened city leadership.
