HRH The Prince of Wales, will attend CLGFs annual reception at Marlborough House on 12 July and meet members of the CLGF Board and delegates to the Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Network conference to talk about issues around sustainability and the New Urban Agenda. Read More
New partnership with Microsoft
CLGF has signed a MOU with Microsoft for 2016-20, and agreed a programme of work for 2016-17, the first such longer term corporate partnership with a private sector partner. Read More
LAs use LED to deliver development in Southern Africa
From 28-29 June, CLGF is holding a regional conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, to disseminate the outcomes of its regional programme on Supporting local governance and local economic development in Southern Africa and explore further the role of local government in delivering the SDGs. The programme was funded by the UK Department of International Development and has also received support from the European Union. Read More
Queen launches CLGF's new home
The Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) is to be part of a new Commonwealth Hub which was launched by HM the Queen on 9 June in London. It will bring together Commonwealth organisations - initially CLGF, the Royal Commonwealth Society and the Commonwealth Games Federation - in the same location to create a new collaborative, dynamic and innovative way of working. The Queen officially launched the hub during a visit to Marlborough House ahead of her official 90th birthday celebrations attended by representatives from 53 Commonwealth countries. Read More
Call for special status for local government at Habitat III
CLGF has joined forces with other local government bodies to call for a specific status for local and sub-national bodies to be represented at the table in the Habitat III discussions in Quito later this year which will focus on the New Urban Agenda (NUA). The Global Task Force, of which CLGF is a prominent member, is calling on UN member states to give local authorities special status to play their full role as active partners both at Habitat III and the overall UN system. Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Network meets in London in July
The second meeting of CLGFs Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Network (CSCN) will take place in London on 12-13 July. Held in the run-up to the Habitat III Conference in Quito, October 2016 and the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments. The meeting will cover key policy areas including making cities inclusive, resilient and safe, using ICT to implement the SDGs, encouraging social cohesion and combatting extremism. Read More
