As part of a project on urbanisation in East Africa, CLGF joined with partners this February to share the preliminary findings of research carried out over the last year. The meeting held in Karimjee Hall, Dar es Salaam revealed mapping of access, utility and expansion, which aims to stimulate a policy debate to foster more inclusive and welfare-enhancing urban transition in the cities of Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Khartoum. Pakistan: Local Government a Partner in National Development
As an important local government conference came to a close this week in Islamabad, a range of recommendations have been made to inform the way forward. Organised by CLGF and the Local Councils Association of the Punjab, the event was part of an EU funded project to strengthen the four local councils associations in Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as the ADLG - the national umbrella body in Pakistan. CLGF Pacific members tackling rapid urbanisation
At a regional workshop held in December in Nadi, CLGF Pacific members gathered to develop a collective understanding of the issues and processes relating to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) in the Pacific region. Focusing on the role of local government in the NUA, the workshop was convened to prepare for the Fifth Pacific Urban Forum (PUF) to be held in May, 2019. Read More
Ghana: using LED to achieve SDGs
CLGF was in the Ghanaian capital Accra in December, hosting a national event entitled Local Economic Development: a Framework for implementation of the SDGs. The meeting, which brought together both elected and technical representatives from local government looked at how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be achieved through local economic development (LED) initiatives.
