CLGF supports launch of the first national local government association in Pakistan
The four provincial local government associations in Pakistan joined together to launch the national Association for Development of Local Governance (ADLG) in Lahore on 30 April. Around 200 mayors and councillors from Pakistan attended the official launch along with CSO representatives and government officials. This is the first time Pakistan has had a national local government association. In a video message to the launch, CLGF Secretary-General Carl Wright welcomed the new organisation and congratulated those who had been instrumental in setting it up. Read More
Strengthening local government's role in the Caribbean
CLGF launched a new regional programme in the Caribbean at the 2016 Caribbean regional meeting on 21-23 March in Port of Spain. The meeting was hosted in collaboration with CALGA, the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government and TTALGA. Read More
CLGF inputs into key recommendations for Habitat III
As part of the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments for Post 2015 Development Agenda, CLGF has inputted into the development of key principles that should underpin the Habitat III process, as well as a set of policy recommendations that should act as the cornerstones of the New Urban Agenda. Role of local government in managing the refugee crisis
CLGF participated in the discussion on the role of decentralised cooperation in managing the refugee crisis during Platformas political council meeting on 8 April. The meeting emphasised the vital role of local governments in managing the refugee crisis, role of municipalities in coordinating volunteer support, integrating migrants and ensure exchange of best practices between host regions to ensure relocation of migrants. Supporting elected women representatives in India
CLGF along with the state of Panchayat Elected Women Representatives Association Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan and the Resource and Support Centre for Development (RSCD) hosted a two day Mahila Sarpanch Conference to strengthen the role of elected womens association on 30-31 March in Mumbai. Supporting inclusive growth in cities campaign
CLGF facilitated participation of mayors from member countries including Uganda and Ghana at the launch of the Inclusive Growth in Cities Campaign on 29 March in New York. CLGF supported the participation of Mayor Ibrahim Baidoo of Ashaiman, Ghana ; Mayor Issahaku Nuhu-Putiaha, Wa Municipal Assembly, Ghana and Mayor Johnson Muyanja of Mukono Municipality, Uganda at the event.
