Mayor of Indore joins CSCN Steering Committee
04 November 2026
CLGF is delighted to welcome Shri Pushyamitra Bhargav, Hon’ble Mayor of Indore, as the newest member of the Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Network (CSCN) Steering Committee. Mayor Bhargav accepted the invitation in September 2026 and will help advance the Network’s work on sustainable urbanisation, peer learning and practical city-to-city cooperation.
Serving as Indore’s 24th Mayor since 2022, Mayor Bhargav brings extensive municipal leadership experience and a strong commitment to international city cooperation, knowledge exchange and sustainable urban development.
Indore offers important practical experience for the Network. In April 2026, the city inaugurated a 60 MW municipal solar plant, financed largely through India’s first public offering of municipal green bonds. Indore also remains in India’s premier Super Swachh League and placed second among million-plus cities in the 2026 national clean-air assessment.
Of particular relevance to CSCN, Indore has demonstrated how successful city practice can be transferred to other municipalities. Under the national Swachh Shehar Jodi initiative, Indore mentored Depalpur in waste segregation and legacy-waste remediation. In August 2026, Depalpur became the initiative’s first participating city to achieve zero legacy waste.
Mayor Bhargav’s appointment builds on his participation in the Sustainable Urban Development in Madhya Pradesh conference in Bhopal. He looks forward to supporting CSCN’s objectives, including the proposed city-to-city exchange programme in Madhya Pradesh, while strengthening the Network’s engagement with Indian cities and the wider South Asian region.
He also participated in the Wilton Park Dialogue, From Declaration to Delivery: Operationalising the Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Coalition to Achieve a More Resilient Commonwealth, in Georgetown, Guyana, from 28–30 October 2026. The Dialogue considered how the Commonwealth Declaration on Sustainable Urbanisation can be translated into coordinated action, investment and delivery.
CLGF warmly congratulates Mayor Bhargav and looks forward to his contribution to the CSCN Steering Committee.
