GALGA and Councils' Resource Mobilisation Strategies Launched

23 June 2026

The Gambia Association of Local Government Authorities (GALG) has officially launched two Resource Mobilisation Strategies – one tailored for the Gambia Association of Local Government Authorities-GALGA' and another for the 8 Local Councils. The launch took place at Mansakonko Area Council, LRR Conference Centre, The Gambia, on 22nd June 2026.

Supported by CLGF, this initiative is co-funded by the European Union in The Gambia and UNDP-funded GREAT Project. The goal of these strategies is to provide a clear, systematic, predictable and well-coordinated approach to managing partners’ assistance - spanning beneficiaries’ solicitation, acquisition, utilisation, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, while simultaneously expanding own-revenue mobilisation.

Speaking at the launching event, Mr Mahamadou Ceesay - GALGA President and Chairman of the Basse Area Council, highlighted that: "This initiative is generously supported by CLGF with additional funding from the EU-UNDP GREAT Project and embodies our collective dedication to empowering local governments and enhancing grassroots development,".
He noted that effective resource mobilisation is crucial for achieving sustainable development at both local and national levels, adding that the launched strategies are designed to equip councils and GALGA with the tools needed to mobilise resources, promote accountability, and improve service delivery.

Claire Frost, Head of Programmes for the Commonwealth Local Government Forum, expressed her institution's delight in partnering with GALGA to support their work and that of their member Councils in resource mobilisation. "We could not be more pleased to be part of the launch of these two strategies,” she stated, noting that the work was supported under the wider CLGF-EU-funded programme focused on empowering local government.
