Sierra Leone councils going from strength to strength

The Local Councils Association of Sierra Leone (LoCASL) held its third General Assembly meeting in Port Loko District Council on 20 and 21 September.

 

In addition to electing a new executive, the meeting looked at the successes and challenges of Local Economic Development policies and programmes in Sierra Leone. Mayors and Councillors came together with key decisions makers from central government and development partners to discuss the existing and future role of local councils in taking forward inclusive LED.

 

Architects and engineers of development

 

At the opening of the Assembly, the Honorable Minister for the North West Region reminded local government that they are the architects and engineers of Sierra Leone's development. 

 

Incredible progress 

 

CLGF Deputy Secretary General Lucy Slack attended the meeting and said: "The room was packed as we reflected on the incredible progress that's been made since the organisation was established, and the journey undertaken by the leaders who have been part of its development. There were many exciting suggestions around local eoncomic development to ensure that everyone is empowered to be part of this important way to improve communities."
